In her own words

Hello, my name is Pamela Lee and I’m on expert on Autistic Spectrum Disorder. I can help you with advice on a wide variety of issues, including statements, understanding behaviour and crucial advocacy skills. The Autistic Spectrum is a very broad continuum, presenting a wide range of specific difficulties and needs. I believe in treating each child as an individual, as appropriate solutions may be completely different from one child to the next. I’m here to listen to whatever is happening in your life, and offer advice from my time teaching, working with Social Services and as a foster mum myself.

My speciality is helping you to communicate to others that young people who have ASD have a place and a voice. There are some who don’t like labels, which is perfectly understandable. However, statements can open the doors to educational and social support that can get your child’s needs met. I’m here for advice on the whole process, no matter how daunting it may seem at first. I’ll also help with understanding behaviour. I firmly believe there is always a cause to the effect being shown, and through discussion you can find that cause in order to reduce it. You may want to ask me about some of the tendencies associated with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, such as rigidity, lack of understanding of the immediate environment and repetitive actions. Self-harming is obviously very worrying but again we can work together to find the reasons behind it. Or you might want support around eating and/or toileting. I’ll approach your child or young person as a unique, important individual to help you explore some workable specialist solutions.

I have observed that children who have autism or autism-like disorders are almost completely visual learners. They are able to assimilate information when it is presented to them visually as opposed to orally. Signs and symbols promote stability and reduce anxiety - which is a positive approach to many more difficult types of behaviour. I’ll also talk about how timetabling the day and advance preparation for any change and how social stories are an excellent tool you can easily use. I would be delighted to help you become better equipped to understand and support your child. Please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone - no matter what the issues are I’m here at Greatvine to listen and respond with reliable expert insights. With my very warmest wishes,
