Introduction

• Public health • Sexual health • Teenage pregnancy • Contraception • Sexuality • Pregnancy • Childbirth • Postnatal care • Domestic abuse • Child development • Parenting skills • Exercise and nutrition in pregnancy and the post natal-period • Menopause • Osteoporosis prevention • Yoga, Meditation and relaxation techniques -- Hello, my name is Barbara Hastings-Asatourian. I’m passionate about promoting health and have developed my speciality in sexual and reproductive health throughout my career. Since my "retirement" from academia I am now mostly focused on holistic practices like Yoga and Meditation. I incorporate yoga, relaxation and meditation into my own life, and have learned how to pass on these skills to others. Throughout my career I’ve worked in health and health promotion. I started off by training as a nurse, then worked in clinical settings for several years, before working as an educator in various ways, including the voluntary sector. I’ve won awards for my innovative teaching materials, for example ‘Contraception: the board game’, and ‘Safer sex: an interactive learning resource’. You can confidently call me about any health and well being related issues. I am qualified to deliver the freedom programme (see www.freedomprogramme.co.uk ) to domestic abuse service users to help them understand and recognise abuse, even early warning signs, and avoid abusive relationships in the future. Freedom programme training has given me enormous insight into domestic abuse and this work has helped many women become much more aware and more confident to take necessary action.
